Terrible gimbal but fixable

First of all, the thing is shaky and not smooth at all. If you don't have a hand, don't buy these. I took mine apart and was able to make it stable and smooth. I did this. I took mine apart and was able to get it sturdy and smooth and that would undoubtedly void any warranty. The compass is something that can be obtained from the gumball machine. I removed it along with the lid it was sitting in. This gave me access to the bolt. I took it apart and found that some parts of the machining were not cleaned and there were bits of metal in the joint. I removed the burrs and cleaned up any loose metal. Trial assembly of the parts eliminated a large misalignment, well over .030 inch. I was on the edge and couldn't make a washer so I used a brass washer to tighten the fit. The grease was very sticky so I cleaned all the parts. and uses a Teflon based lubricant. The bolt had a conical head and it was very difficult to get the right pressure. Replaced the screw with a round head and made a brass washer to allow timely movement. The cone joint was also dismantled as it was very wobbly when loosened and loses position during the locking process. I re-tightened the parts to tighten the fit and lubricated. That was more difficult to adjust as part of the locking mechanism is also part of the stability of this linkage. .There was a spirit level in the mounting plate locking screw, but it was of no practical use. I removed it and found that it is based on the M6-1 metric thread. I removed it and changed the seat post adjuster. from the bike so I now have a cam lock. Where the compass was I used a bubble level (in a really handy position) which I attached with double sided tape. It's just a while before I can make proper spacers out of UHMW plastic, at which point I'd better attach a bubble level. For the price you get what you pay for. If you're able to fix its shortcomings, it can be a bargain compared to high-end gimbals.
