I took a leap of faith by ordering the KZ ZS7 (without microphone) with minimal reviews online at the time of purchase. What motivated me to buy the KZ ZS7 is that I have a good sounding plastic KZ ZS5 with a larger base on the attachments. Prolonged listening with the KZ ZS5 causes discomfort in the ear canals. In contrast, the KZ ZS7 earplugs are nicely tapered and therefore more comfortable to wear. Another improved aspect of the KZ ZS7 over the KZ ZS5 is the build quality with a metal body rather than the plastic body of the KZ ZS5. The sound between the two models is similar. With a less dynamic driver per side compared to the KZ ZS5, the KZ ZS7 is surprisingly punchy in bass response. The noise is minimal. The KZ ZS7 doesn't appear to be as V-shaped in frequency response as the KZ ZS5. The vocals are more intimate and tend to be accompanied by a heavy bass presence if you don't mind the coexistence of the two elements. And high frequencies are perfectly reproduced by four balanced armature drivers on each side. Overall, the KZ ZS7 is an improvement over the KZ ZS5 in many ways, including a less sticky cable and a more solid appearance.
