We like this card, suitable for floor puzzles

We love this card. It's big and well made; very strong parts. Our only problem is that the jigsaw pieces are not traditional jigsaw pieces: each piece has smooth curves around the edges. This means that the puzzle is not held together at all. Again a very nice puzzle but I would have preferred the traditionally shaped pieces. I also think it would be helpful and important to make this significant difference clear on the site.

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • No performance

Unexpected quality from Melissa & Doug products

We have other dinosaur and solar system puzzles from Melissa & Doug and my 3 year old loves to collect them. This one is of very low quality compared to others. Not only the lower part of the part from South America is bent, other parts don't fit together either. It almost looks homemade, like a child's craft. The box also says age 6+ but 3+ would be more appropriate. All in all we are both very disappointed.

Pros
  • Few competitors
Cons
  • No instructions

Wanted to love this puzzle but I don't.

I bought this puzzle for my 4.5 year old who loves puzzles (and is very good at them!) because he now likes continents at school. I also like the M&D brand, but this riddle is not true. The pieces sit next to each other when placed in the right place, but they don't fit together in a way that keeps them in place. I'm returning the puzzle in favor of a different variant from a different brand, hoping it will be a more traditional puzzle design.

Pros
  • A sea of positive emotions
Cons
  • Big and bulky

Usually when a puzzle piece is missing I think my kids accidentally put it somewhere. This time, however, I was the one who opened the box and threw away the parts. Because each puzzle piece is as big as my face, my kids couldn't eat it or hide it anywhere. My kids also assembled the 32 pieces we had in about 2 minutes. It may be more suitable for very young children but it was too easy for my 4 and 6 year olds.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Very expensive

Solid but everything moves

It's more useful for exploring continents than other puzzles I've seen, but I don't understand why puzzle makers can't make pieces that actually connect to help you move forward be able. Even if you do the edges first, the other shapes (which do NOT match the continental borders in all cases) don't line up exactly, making it difficult for kids to put them together. Everything moves as you try to finish it. I got this for my five and eight year olds and it was a bit frustrating. But the details…

Curriculum Reinforcement for First Years

My first year has started to bring homework based on basic geography, with an emphasis on the names of continents and oceans. I bought it to strengthen the school curriculum. The puzzle helps him with names and understanding where all the continents and oceans relate to each other. The puzzle is easy enough for my 7 and 5 year olds and the quality is excellent. My boys love this puzzle so much because it's big and different from traditional jigsaw puzzles. They don't even realize they're…

Pros
  • Hands-free work
Cons
  • Crumpled

4.75 stars! in Puzzles

I don't think I have ever given any Melissa & Doug product less than five stars (I really wish I could give it 4.75 stars because my complaint is really subjective is. Outer (the edges of the puzzle are connected pieces, but the inner pieces aren't. It's not entirely bad, it's just not what we're used to) only I'd mind a lot less. However, this is our newest/favorite puzzle. Our 3 year old put it together very easily on the second try. Continuous. Easy to read. The images on the puzzle (killer…
