This new strainer is needed when a new pump is installed
When replacing the pump always replace the strainer as it is installed on the pump and it will fall off when reusing the old one. Some people solder them to their pumps to keep them from falling off. I used a JEGS mount bought on Amazon which prevents it from coming loose rather than being soldered.
