A few weeks ago I received a Wansview W4 outdoor camera in exchange for my unbiased review. It was well packaged with simple instructions and a kit of materials (e.g. screws, anchors) that was adequate for most installations. Installation: This isn't my first Wansview camera, so the application has already been downloaded and it's pretty handy to figure out how to set up a WiFi QR reader). Wansview offers a cloud storage option for those who need it, or you can store clips and images locally on your device. Installation: This device must be connected to a permanent power supply and battery operation is not possible. I had an outside outlet where I wanted to install the unit, which made it easier, but it's certainly worth considering. The ability to connect via Ethernet or Wi-Fi is also a good feature if your setup is configured for a hard Ethernet connection. The three cables running from the back of the camera (power, ethernet, and reset button) are a bit bulky, but manageable during installation. The antenna has several degrees of freedom, but can interfere depending on the installation location. In my case I installed the camera on the underside of the cornice, not on the wall. Fortunately, Wansview has taken this into account and allows you to change the orientation of the video if you need to mount the camera antenna down. Video quality and integrity: High image quality day and night, especially for the price. I experienced acceptable lag and good flow integrity. The camera only connects to the 2.4GHz bands, so throughput can be a latency and stream integrity issue depending on your ISP and Wi-Fi coverage. Features: The application allows you to enable motion detection and alerts. That's handy, but not relevant to my application. You can share camera access with many users (e.g. family members, co-workers, etc.) via the Wansview app. Pros: Value (it's a lot of benefits rolled into one, with good quality and functionality at a reasonable price.) Reliability (Have no issues with connection loss or camera rebooting after installation so far.) Upgradable to cloud storage for an additional fee. Probably most useful if you have multiple Wansview cameras. Can be controlled by Alexa. Waterproof. Keep this in mind to avoid disappointment if you need this functionality for your application. The position of the antenna can potentially affect your installation plans, but there are important options to make it work (e.g. degrees of freedom in the mount and antenna and the ability to mirror the image). The camera itself has no native or expandable storage. All in all: An affordable waterproof outdoor camera with night vision suitable for most applications that do not require audio or speaking. back functions.
