Canon Powershot SD850 vs Old S500

This review is a comparison between the newer Canon Powershot SD850 IS and the older Powershot S500: which I bought 4 years ago. Added SD850 face detection, 8MP camera instead of 5MP, image stabilization, max ISO 1600 instead of 400 ISO, DIGIC III image processing, multiple scene adjustments and many screen/menu additions. the quality of the original photo. I have to admit I'm really disappointed that I can shoot with both the 4 year old S500 and the SD850 IS. However, the S500 was a pretty good camera, so the SD850 IS is still better than most other cameras. I took the same photos with the S500 and the SD850 and compared them. Here are my findings: Why SD850 is better than S5001. Secure digital cards are smaller than older compact flash cards2. It's much faster when viewing photos in playback mode.3. The menu is much prettier and easier to explore4. The display is much larger. (The optical viewfinder is all but gone. I still can't imagine looking through that tiny wasted scope.) 5. Multiple scene modes are available. However, they are overpriced. Don't expect them to snap a photo for you with the default settings. You still need to adjust ISO, flash and other settings.6. 8MP. w00t! Seriously, the extra megapixels probably don't matter (except outdoors/in well-lit environments) as the image quality is a lot worse than what the megapixels can display. Of course, if you always use a tripod, that's a different story and you should probably get a pro camera.7. It's finally new! Plus, it has ridiculously high ratings on CNET and every other site, which means it has something to offer. ---"Why isn't this an improvement over the S500:1. The overall stability of the SD850IS has dropped a bit, so the IS barely makes up for the stability of the old S500.2. They're practically the same size. .3. The flash still sucks. But I have to admit if non-fill flash doesn't suck on any camera. The bad thing is that the camera flashes automatically more often than before, and there's still no manual fill-flash. The next alternative to night mode. 4. Whenever I switch between modes (Auto, Manual, Scene) it resets all my settings for that mode including NO-FLASH Just annoying especially when taking a quick photo 5. High ISO is still grainy I don't think DIGIC III makes any progress on noise reduction 6. Power button is small and hard to reach 7. Outdoor photography still looks good (if not better/brighter), indoor shooting is more stable anyway m not become for image stabilization.
