I bought this in my registry so my newborn would have a nice soft pillow to lie on, but I soon found that changing the sheets is totally inconvenient and I wouldn't benefit much from it . Babies lose fluid from all parts of their bodies and the changing mat (obviously) gets pretty dirty. Putting on and taking off the cover several times a week (if not several times a day) is not practical. It's much easier to just wipe the plastic pad off when it gets dirty. I'll admit that with heavy use my changing pad has cracked down the middle and if it were closed it would probably protect better, but changing pads are cheap enough that I can just throw them away when they're beyond repair . buy another. Unless you plan to buy replacement ear pads to change them daily, they aren't necessary. I will say that this one was well washed, soft and absorbent.
