I bought this because I needed a CD player that doesn't take up as much space as my boombox player and is lightweight so I can easily move it out of the room can move into the room while listening to CD books. This one fills the bill and it's easy to understand how to use it. As a radio, it doesn't get as good a reception as my equally sized Radio Shack, but plays CDs well. That's why I almost returned it: when I first opened it I was dismayed after reading literature that said it was a "Class 1 laser device" and could emit low levels of radiation if misused. I called Emerson support and the rep explained that all CD players are laser devices (although none of my others claimed this) and that the only safety risk was that I would try to open the door and listen to CDs without one that the door is included . She said as soon as the door was opened, the laser device component automatically turned itself off. (I think it's like a microwave.) Anyway, I've had it for a few weeks now and it's very convenient because it's small and light.
