Once you're on and ready, press the button to press the power button, then use it to cycle through the power settings and heart rate. You can't step on it or lift your foot because it shuts off, so be prepared to walk the full 15 minutes. If you feel nothing and decide it's rubbish or you just can't get it to work, try my way and be prepared for higher settings, it has a nice boost.
