A great way to turn your webcam into a surveillance camera.

I bought this to temporarily place my Lifecam Cinema HD webcam outside on a sunny day and it works great for that purpose. The picture with two coils confused me a bit; When I unwrapped the cable, I saw that there was an active repeater in the middle of the cable and a second repeater at the end. The repeater in the middle is hardwired. The cable itself is a shielded, braided cable with a clear plastic outer covering - this should help avoid interference issues and ensure limited water exposure if you're careful with the connectors in the middle and at both ends. There are a few things to keep in mind when purchasing one of these cables: 1) The length of the cable limits the speed at which data can be reliably transferred (which is why you don't see 3.0), and the length also adds a bit of latency. , so some bi-directional devices may not work reliably if they cannot handle the extra latency. (This is where certain printer protocols come to mind) 2) Also, active repeaters draw some power from USB ports, so the actual maximum power available to a connected USB device is lower than from a regular USB port. This lower power consumption can also cause problems with higher powered devices powered by a USB cable. This should not affect low power devices (e.g. webcams) or externally powered devices such as most printers. 3) Don't forget the repeater in the middle when running the cable through a small hole in the wall - such a hole should be about halfway down the cable closest to the PC and you may have to pull the cable back to the PC.
