I have IKEA lights in my kitchen that illuminate the bottom and top of the cabinet. 10W halogen bulbs are tricky to handle, require careful installation to avoid oil contamination of the bulbs, constantly blow out here and there, and generate a decent amount of unwanted heat. After finding these COB style records I decided to bite the bullet. and make an exchange. I didn't want to use LEDs trying to be shaped like a lightbulb as LEDs should not be used in reflector housings as the light pattern usually looks like junk. They were great the first time they were installed, the light quality is good, it's not, but good enough for my purposes. However, I have simple AC/AC transformers that step down from 120V to 12V as all original IKEA power supplies died from overheating. They gave off direct current. These lights will flash at 12VDC when they are the only load on the circuit. It's pretty annoying and I saw it all the time. I have 12V DC drivers to replace the transformers but I haven't bothered with that yet. If there is 1 halogen bulb in each circuit at the same time, essentially a resistive load smoothing the AC current, the light will flicker a bit, but that's well within my tolerance. I'm a little disappointed because they have a good electrolyte. Cap on the board but it shouldn't be enough to smooth the AC.
