Ball fits and fits perfectly on the ball on my hitch. The cable keeps them together conveniently. Unpacking took longer than fastening and locking the trailer with this nifty set of locks. I feel the lock itself is a little light - it really serves to protect against accidental theft versus determined attack. Despite the cable, you can easily use the ball part with another lock that is stronger if you want. This device is always with me while driving in case I need to leave the trailer, but for home storage it uses a hardened chain and padlock for longer-term protection. Don't underestimate thieves - many trailers I've seen lack security and some states don't require a title, making trailers attractive to theft. Each defense helps thieves turn to an easier target.
