Review on Red Sony 8GB Walkman MP3 Player - NWE394/R - Enhanced for SEO by Bradley Stewart

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I still prefer the simplicity of the SONY Walkman despite being expensive and with limited features

Having owned a Walkman for 35 years, some thoughts on the Sony E394 compared to previous ones Models mentioned in the comments and questions. The review reflects the one I wrote for the E395 (black 16GB model - images I reuse) which is no longer available from Sony and whose product page is no longer on Revain. There were numerous comments pointing to the failure of the front buttons. Of course, after a year, the front controls also became unreliable for me. For example, if you press the Play/Pause button to pause a song, it takes you to an entirely different section of the menu hierarchy. I still use it in my car where Walkman controls are streamed to the car's touchscreen via USB. Anyhow, it looks like SONY has dropped them, and let's see how this red 8GB model holds up. Playlists and File Transfers: Many of us prefer to organize our pictures and music manually by creating folders and dragging and dropping files, rather than relying on an application like iTunes or Windows Media. I organize my files into folders and use the Folders option at the bottom of the Walkman music menu. It plays all the songs in that folder, and you can rename files with a number in front of the filename if it's important to "force" a specific song playing order, hence no lost playlists and no proprietary software required. The Sony Walkman does a great job as another drive on your computer. If you wish, create and place your own separate folders, which can now double as playlists, in your Walkman's Music folder. Other option. Stripped features: Sony has indeed removed many features from the Walkman. You probably won't miss most of these features, as well as the ability to record videos, when cycling, jogging or working out. Menu: Navigating the E394 is simple and intuitive. The new E394 seems to be a bit slower when working with menu functions and between songs. Sony has decided to add a feature to browse album art. The album art doesn't show up very well. If you don't visually remember the album art itself, or if you have fewer, say, a dozen or so albums, I don't think this is a useful feature. Build Quality: Build quality is definitely less pearly. like, but I think maybe its lighter weight makes it less prone to fall damage. The controls are responsive, but the return of the external "Hold" switch is nice. Turn it off and set a lock that prevents it from being accidentally turned on. To turn it on, it's one step, just release the hold button, the device turns on immediately (no more long press and wait). Unfortunately, unlike its immediate predecessor, the E394's front controls are now flat (no embossing), again making it difficult to grasp the controls by touch. Volume: The volume slider is now on the side. I like it as you can adjust the volume while playing songs and browsing other menus. The volume with closed headphones is ok. In fact, it's uncomfortably loud at higher volumes. It also works great with my BOSE noise canceling headset. Your volume will of course depend in part on the impedance of your headset. Turn off Bass Boost. Play with the equalizer settings including the custom function. Car Use: Car use has two options. In my car, it is recognized via USB, and I can use the car's touchscreen, steering wheel, etc. If your car doesn't recognize it, use the 3.5mm headphone jack to input the car's AUX input. It also allows you to use all of the Walkman's menu functions yourself, but you no longer have your hands free. If you want to charge your Walkman at the same time, use a 12V car outlet and a USB power converter with a USB-A to Micro-USB cable. (I have attached photos of both setups). The latest Walkman has an Android-type micro USB. Buy a 12V USB power adapter, a short male-to-male 3.5mm headphone cable, and a USB-A to Micro-USB charging cable if needed (I use the multifunction drawer a lot). https://www.amazon.com/RevainBasics-Dual-Port-Charger-Adapter-Android/dp/B072C7R4CD/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=3LX3WSZ7D8WL5&dchild=1&keywords=12v+usb+adapter+car&qid=1623378704&sprefix=12v+usb+ad %2Caps%2C851-1 -spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExRDZDQjdXWjk4RENVJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwNTgzNTMyTzQzVkdHT1RXQVlIJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA1NzE4NjFVTE9XOTVMMkxRV1Amd2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGYmYWN0aW9uPWNsaWNrUmVkaXJlY3QmZG9Ob3RMb2dDbGljaz10cnVlhttps://www.amazon.com/RevainBasics-Male-Micro-Cable-Black/dp/B07232M876/ref=sr_1_3?crid=VMVR1BHUUP0Y&dchild=1&keywords=usb+a+ to+ micro +usb+cord&qid=1623378877&sprefix=usb+a+to+micro+usb+cord%2Celectronics%2C150&sr=8-3https://www.amazon.com/ASICEN-Retractable-Lightning-Charging-Blackberry/dp/B074CW4QTQ/ ref =pd_ybh_a_23?_encoding =UTF8&psc=1&refRID=JJ842ZFMMZD96R60VG3Whttps://www.amazon.com/R evainBasics-3-5mm-Stereo-Audio-Cable/dp/B00NO73IN2/ref=pd_sim_23_6?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00NO73MUQ&pd_rd_r=9fc115b9 -a661 - 11e8-a85b-ad9aadebc9ee&pd_rd_w=2Gfj4&pd_ r d_wg=UOtpa&pf_rd_i=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=a180fdfb- b54e-4904-85ba-d852197d6c09&pf_rd_r=BN7ADAD5G9D3TSDY1S7J&pf_rd_s=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_t=40701&refRID=BN7ADAD5G9D3TSDY1S7J&th=1Все мои старые плееры Walkman все еще в рабочем состоянии, хотя некоторые из них едва suits me4 and the new E39 is non-touchscreen and prefers "flash drive" type file management to transport work, sports, etc. rather than risk breaking a $1,000 (or more) phone connectivity and poor sound are common in this price range. There is still a market for inexpensive MP3 players. There are a lot of them, but despite the fact that they are cheaper, the reviews on functionality and reliability are no better, and most of them are worse than that of this SONY. Hope that helps.

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Incredible price
