As far as springs/bad reviews - you SHOULD do it

Product works great, active exhaust stuck and no codes after 2600 miles. I have seen other reviews give one star and say the springs are not suitable for this setup. They shouldn't, two small sticks are inserted into the motor in place of the springs. Because there are no instructions: Step 1: Place the rear of the vehicle on ramps/jacks or place the vehicle on a lift. ENSURE THE EXHAUST IS COOL. don't get burned Step 2: Using an 8mm socket, remove the nuts securing the exhaust valve motor. Do this one side at a time. Don't turn off the engine, just step aside. Step 3: Manually open the outlet valve. You can tell whether it is open by whether the retaining plate fits onto the valve. If it isn't flush, you turned the valve the wrong way round. Using a 10mm socket, install the nuts from the new kit onto the studs and secure the plate to the exhaust valve. Step 4: Insert a small metal rod into the clamp on the active exhaust motor. This allows the motor to rotate and simulate valve operation. 4 metal pins on the block plate provide holding points for the bar. This will prevent you from getting the check engine light. Save the springs in case you wish to use an active exhaust in the future, but the springs are not returned to the car with this setup. Step 5: Using an allen wrench or bit, install the active exhaust motor using the screws included in the kit. .Step 6: Repeat on the other side, enjoy your car. This product works great and I am absolutely satisfied with it. My AES valve knock stopped in normal mode at 2000 rpm under load.
