Foot numbness made me look for non-slip bath mats and I chose these based on their length without measuring the tub. It's a strand or two too long, but I found it easy to trim with household scissors. I didn't machine wash it but as I had to cut it in two and I went for the small section the size seems to fit so will try to machine wash if needed. It dries the same day as used, so mold is unlikely to form. However, our hard water may eventually need to be decalcified, and this is done right in the hot water bath left over from the occasional decalcification of a household water distiller. We are very happy with the carpet ADVANTAGES: Since this carpet is always visible in the bathroom (it must be stored so that air is blown on both sides), in addition to safety, appearance was also of paramount importance. I chose green and find it pleasant and harmless. It dries quickly in a not too warm bathroom. .CONS: This applies to any non-slip bath mat, so it's not a disadvantage for this one. Due to multiple hand and arm ailments, I'm not allowed to squeeze many suction cups. I attach about 8 suction cups and the mat stays in place. While the cups lower with a simple touch of a finger, even 8 creates a lot of resistance when losing weight at my level of distress.
