I have been using this humidifier for four winters, in the third year of use it began to buzz intermittently under load. Eventually it stops when I lift the water tank off the base and put it back in. It's been happening a lot this past winter, so I'm taking it as a sign he's leaving. Not sure if it's something that gets weaker over time because the hum sounds like metal on plastic? teardrop shape. This water tank had a wide opening so you could reach it for cleaning which added to its durability, if it weren't for the craze I'd probably keep it for next winter. On the base on which the tank rested, brown spots appeared over time, which have not been removed, it looks like it was cut into the plastic. This place was the hardest to clean (vinegar and water solution) and is rectangular with sharp corners so you can never bump into the corners. Combined with the hum, I figured that was it. I plan to buy the same model or try a smaller version of it. I found that a full tank took a day and a half or two and I let the water sit until it was low to refill, which may have contributed to the brown buildup on the bottom. I also used cleaning cartridges in the water tank to prevent mold growth. I suspect that storing the water in the tank and leaving it there when not in use is not the most hygienic environment. So I'll probably buy a smaller one that has less runtime on a full tank, which might work well in my case. since in winter I only use it at night when the heating comes on and the air dries. No standing water = no mold? I hope. Overall I would recommend and buy again. For the price, getting four years is pretty good in my opinion.
