I didn't order it for painting or drawing in the field, but I ordered it to mount a 24" x 24" lightweight flexible solar panel. This gives me much more leeway in setting up my solar panel to capture the most direct sunlight. Previously I've had to lean the panel against something solid, but I've never been able to adjust the panel to catch the most direct sunlight. It's a breeze now, plus I have a spring clip at the top of the easel to hold the panel in place and a bar at the bottom that runs across most of my panel. Now it is very secure and will not move in the wind. If this easel holds up well I'll probably buy more of these to support more 50 watt solar panels. Finally, this device is very light, folds quite compactly and fits in a nice 24 inch long carrying case, making it VERY easy to carry and store. Great for what I need and most likely great for drawing and painting!
