1. The part that goes through the top of the foot covers most of the foot (it goes much closer to the ankle than, say, loafers) and doesn't stretch. My 4 year old couldn't put these slippers on by himself, but he can wear other shoes and sandals well.2. The fabric is not cut to have a monster truck centered at the top of each leg. It's obvious in the photos, but I was hoping there would be enough "truck" on each slipper to identify them. It didn't work that way. However, the soles seem to have enough grip. The insoles are very thick and soft - perfectly protect your feet from the cold floor! That is, if I were willing to remake the slippers enough for a child to wear.
