Wire breaks are best placed on dogs

This product works exactly as advertised. I have almost 3 acres of wire on my invisible fence. The company that installed it walked the front and both sides of my property line until they came to the woods at the back. They buried the wire about 2 inches deep, about 3 or 4 feet inside the tree line on all four sides, and had to weave in and out to avoid tree roots, and placed the flags in a straight line so it looked like the wire went about straight. This fact resulted in me accidentally breaking the cable a couple of times, but since I worked on a tractor I knew where the cable broke and I quickly located and connected the break. This time, however, I was at a loss. The transmitter started beeping continuously, seemingly out of the blue. My son and I walked all the way around the fence line and didn't find any dirt thrown up. I was looking at Revain and found and bought this PetSafe broken wire locator. I've had this for a few weeks now and my dogs still stayed in the wire because they've been well trained over the past year and a half since I installed the invisible fence. But today one of them realized it didn't work so she went to steal empty beer bottles from my neighbor's garden and I caught her. Time to fix the fence. Putting everything together and getting it up and running was a breeze, just like the easy to read and understand instructions said. I tested it on the ground wires and got red and green along with the corresponding tones. Big! The first thing I found odd was that as I walked the path where the wires diverge and go in opposite directions, I immediately lost the red light and sound. The green stayed on tone and I walked the whole yard before losing tone about 9/10 of the way - apparently due to signal loss. The sound started to fade and the green light stopped blinking, then the sound got even weaker until it completely disappeared. I went back into the garage and dug up the wire that was coming out of the garage wall and found that someone had routed all the wires. to a wire nut. Apparently, a few months ago, the woman noticed that the wires were exposed and decided to fix them. Little did she know they had to be separated so she twisted all 6 wires into a nut. At first I was confused, but then I remembered that my wife is a woman and then it all made sense. She insisted she could have fixed it without my help, but then she forgot to brag about it, so I never found out what she was doing. Anyway, I think that's why the fence went out of order and kept beeping. I disconnected the wires, connected them properly, and rerouted the fence wires. But when I plugged in and plugged in the invisible fence transmitter, it started beeping continuously again, telling me there was still a gap in the fence. This time, I followed the red light and sound about 60 feet from where the wires parted, walking in opposite directions as I approached the new thuja tree my wife and kids planted last weekend. That's right, the wire went right through the center of the root ball, or it would have if it hadn't been cut in half. I plugged it in there and it fixed the fence. Yes, PetSafe Wire Locator! Getting back to that green light and signal that stopped working about 9/10ths of the way around the yard, I think it was a loss of signal due to the length and size of the cable. I'm not sure, but about 100 feet before this happened I realized I was having trouble locating the wire and thought it might be the batteries in the tracker. I replaced them with new batteries but that didn't change anything - the tracker was still having trouble transmitting the signal down the cable. Now I'm almost convinced it was signal loss - the funny thing is that it stopped registering a signal on the cable about 10 feet from where I finally found the broken cable.
