Poor quality for rough plumbing

I bought this genuine Delta replacement cartridge to replace one in a 35 year old faucet that had a small leak. I chose the original part over the aftermarket options hoping to maintain the high standards of quality and durability I experienced with my original valve. Also, aftermarket replacement cartridges had a plastic scorch stop compared to the brass cartridge pictured on the Delta part, so I assumed it was better made. Spring. This turned out to be my problem with this part. The mechanical performance of the shaft itself is poor, resulting in too much clearance between the fire stop and the shaft itself. This causes the firing stop (and handle) to swing on the shaft. The original part I retired was MUCH better than this one! The handle and scald stop fit snugly on the shaft of the old assembly. In fact I took the scorch stopper off the old valve and attached it to the new one and it moved just as badly. Consequently. the problem is that the outer diameter of the shaft is too small and leaves too much play to the corresponding fittings. I gave it 2 stars because the valve works fine and doesn't leak, but the firing ring is useless and the grip looks horrible due to loose play. What worries me a bit is that the scald stop is an integral part of the valve assembly as it doubles as the end stop for the valve itself. I am sure that I will have problems with this in the future. If it was just one defective item, I ended up getting two of them and had the same issue with both. You could also try one of the cheaper foreign-made imitations, because that's probably what you'll get here in the Delta package anyway. Very disappointed in Delta. Very disappointing.
