Defective unit showed software errors after 2-3 months of use - terrible customer support

I bought this unit in March 2020. At first it worked fine. Not as quiet as I was hoping - to be honest it's no quieter than a large 8k BTU device so it's not worth the price. After 2-3 months I would come home or go to the bedroom and find that the device was off. This happened several times and got worse. from the 4th to the 5th month the device started to turn on even in the middle of the night and to work very unstable. I turned it on and it ran what appeared to be initial diagnostics. after 30 seconds it will finally light up, and as of now, August 2020, it will not light up for more than a minute or two. After a few power cycles and 5-10 attempts to turn it on via the app, it finally stays on for a day. Often the display freezes after switching on and off until you interact with it via the smartphone app. I have emailed Friedrich Support three times in the past three weeks with no response. Last time it was mostly in capital letters that indicated that I was dissatisfied with the lack of replies. I finally called today and was told I needed to get a device diagnostic report from an authorized service center. In Rhinebeck, New York, the nearest service center is in Danbury, Connecticut. A (very brief, disparaging) call gave me the name and number of the service center. I called and the owner said they don't drive that far (2 hours) and he's not sure why Friedrich gave me his information. Friedrich told me after receiving the diagnostic report that they would refund any service fees. I'll keep waiting for Friedrich to see what the next steps are and will let you know. This is absolutely terrible customer service. This is a retail AC window unit and should be replaced without questions. I will never use Friedrich again. I thought this company was the gold standard for air conditioning. They are very expensive and I thought build quality, reliability and customer service would follow. I was wrong. Do not buy this device.
