It's fine to have your own autonomy. The charge lasted for 5 hours while it was less than 70% full, but in typical it will last for roughly 18 hours. In overall, I am quite happy with the purchase, and I do not consider the absence of a dedicated application for them to be a drawback. The equalizer is integrated into the player, and you can control the software directly from the headphones.
