I was ready to go, all I needed was a keychain. So after the UPS driver handed me the package, it took me longer to unpack than it did to program. If anyone has trouble here, I've done it. I used RossTech VCDS. I put the original key in the ignition and turned it on. Went to Central Conv, pulled out the remote programming drop down menu. Read bit 0 into memory and store. then switched to bit 1 and bit changed to 2 (for 2 keyfobs). Press save, then press and hold the lock button on each fob for 1-2 seconds. the ignition switched off. Now the new key fob and the old one work. You must have a physical key for this to work. It doesn't matter if you lose your fob while trying to program a new one, as the VCDS will put the computer into pairing mode. This key worked on a 2006 VW Jetta TDI BRM. Now it remains to cut the key, but now it doesn't matter.
