I am a nanny and watch energetic large breed dogs. I usually spend my time with dogs at the dog park or the beach and I usually put towels on the back seat to keep sand, mud and water off my (cloth) seats, but I was looking for something different and this cover is on the seat fulfills its purpose. I have a 2005 Civic and it works fine in the back seat. I usually throw an extra towel under the cover on the side of the car where I rolled the window down because dogs usually kick the edge. a little high and the sand comes under, but otherwise I have no problem with it. I noticed an odor that some people complained about but it went away after a few days. I assume washing before use will get rid of the smell. The bottom line is it covers my seat, is easy to install and does the job. My first test run with it was on a beach full of mud, sand and water. When I took it out of my car the seats were perfectly clean, yes there was some sand on the floor but I can't beat them all. for several trips to the dog park so it had to be washed. I put it in the washing machine and let it air dry. The integrity of the cover is now broken as part of the cover fell apart for lack of a better word. I still use it and still put a towel underneath, but I can feel a bit more sand getting underneath. But I still think for the price of this case compared to others I've seen it's not a bad case, it's just not the best. I might end up getting a cover, but I might not.
