
My initial configuration consisted of two Hubbardton Forge wall lights with 3 short 75W G9 frosted bulbs, each individually controlled by a Maestro MA-600-WH dimmer. Everything is good except for the price and the heat. I was shocked to find that LEDs have replaced a boutique lightbulb like the G9 75W, but here are 6 of them, just what I needed. First I changed 2 2800K halogens to 2 3000K LEDs. For some reason I left a halogen because I couldn't juggle that many on the stairs (the sconces are quite tall). The LEDs were longer than the G9 Bulbrites so I had to remove the diffusers to use the LEDs and the difference between 2800K and 3000K was more pronounced (they are slightly higher than 3000K depending on rounding and significant numbers). The dimmer worked great, dimming halogen and LED equally well across the range. The difference in whiteness didn't matter as I still had to replace the 3rd bulb, right? I replaced the 3rd bulb and the dimmer stopped working. If all lightbulbs are LED, the Lutron Maestro lightbulb dimmer is useless. I replaced it with a Maestro C*L MACL-153MR-WH dimmer (which should work with LEDs, CFLs, halogens and incandescent bulbs, although it's unclear if AND means they're mixed on the same circuit). This dimmer worked from about 50% to 100% but was completely useless from 10% to 50%. If a lamp is to be dimmable, it must contain compatible dimmers IT HAS BEEN TESTED WITH! I then went back to a mixed configuration with a C*L dimmer and the halogen bulb immediately burned out. Wanting it brighter, I substituted the MA-600-WH dimmer and a mixed configuration of 2 LEDs at 3000+K and 1 halogen at 2800K. I can't comment on the longevity of LEDs, but hopefully a better bulb or dimmer will be invented before they go out. Rating them a 5 without good dimming compatibility is irresponsible. But they seem just as bright as halogens (albeit a little whiter) and not as hot and not as high on the electricity bill, so I'm actually pretty happy, mostly because the dimmer works better than any dimmer I've used . work on LED ever seen and it's a hybrid configuration! However, it is clear that the dimmer is receiving feedback from the halogen driven circuit. The designer of these lamps must figure out how to provide the same feedback to the dimmer circuit, as solving this problem is the holy grail of LED lighting.
