Programming the remote was easy, refer to the 2017 Malibu owner's manual for instructions on the procedure. The problem was that after programming the key fob I was unable to press the door lock or unlock button and the start button. I disassembled the key fob and found a sticky transparent substance that prevents the buttons from clicking and touching when pressed. After removing the sticky material from the back of the buttons and reassembling the key fob, I was able to unlock and lock the doors and start the car with the remote control. I don't think this FOB was even tested before sale, I could return it and save myself the heartache. I would like to buy another FOB, but I am afraid of encountering the same problem.
