The reason my title says "Preliminary results are good" is because I just unpacked this item and tried it out on my system which consists of a Yamaha x-397 Natural Sound receiver and a record player Teac TN 570 with audio cartridge technology. Not a great system, but by no means a weak system. My speakers are Yamaha NS 390 from the 1980s. I've kept these speakers for over 30 years because good speakers just get better with age. It took me about 5 minutes to connect the Fosi Audio Box X2 MM phono stage to my stereo receiver. To be honest, I wasn't blown away by the "new" sound. That's because it already sounded great without the preamp! The main reason I bought this preamp was to crank up the rather weak volume and of course the tube tone. The Fosi Audio Box X2 increased the volume but not by much and I turned it to the maximum. The slight increase in volume was well received, although now I don't have to turn the volume knob as far to the right. I still set the grip fairly high (about half way). If I turned on my CD player at that volume, I would practically blow the roof off my house and have my neighbors on my doorstep. I'm not sure if it's downforce from the cartridge, platter, or cartridge, but the volume is unusually low for my system. This box helped a little, but I'll need to check downforce once I have an accurate downforce gauge. Has the sound improved? YES, definitely I would say. The drum rumble is clearer now, the bass is a bit deeper and softer, the cymbals sound more natural and less compressed. The overall sound is more detailed, more dynamic, and less confusing, but not by much. I have to give credit to the built in phono stage of my Yamaha receiver, it's pretty damn good on its own! Once your sound improves, even slightly, you won't want to go back to the old sound, so I'll probably leave it at that. little guy while it lasts. Another thing is that it looks good! I just wish it was a little bigger so it doesn't dissolve into the wooden floor. The sound results are preliminary as the lamps have not yet been broken in. Another bonus is that you can get better sound enhancement tubes if you want! My Fosi Audio Box X2 MM came with 2 sets of tubes which is great value for money! Again, I couldn't tell much of a difference in the added warmth of the sound through the tubes as my system is a little warm to begin with? I haven't tried the included Riverstone tubes yet. Maybe I'll change my mind after the tubes break in. I used to say the same thing about my expensive AT cartridge until it finally cracked and then POW I was in hi-fi heaven! ***UPDATE*** I decided to try Riverstone tubes and the sound SIGNIFICANTLY improved. !
