I run this for about 12 hours a day. Worked well out of the box, no motor problems, no vibrating.It is NOT that loud. I have it right next to my head and while the sound is obviously soothing and masking I can still hear my husband laugh in the living room. It works well for me, but it wont completely cover dogs barking or people talking loudly. It does make those sounds softer though.I would probably need another on my dresser at the end of my room and one on his side to really have a complete sound covering affect. I can hear my toilet running (attached right next to our room, maybe like 15 feet away) while this is on the highest settings right next to my head.So it's okay. Is it worth $50? I dunno but I really needing something once our air purifier kicked the bucket (now THAT is a nice loud sound). So I was desperate. This does the job of keeping me from waking up to our cats jingle bell collars or any playing they do at nigh. It doesn't drown out people opening sticky doors, dogs outside, loud laughing or talking from a room away. The sound itself is a nice soothing cover up, like a high fan. I really wish it was louder though. The quieter settings are useless I can't imagine anyone using it not at full blast. If I wasn't desperate for a white noise machine I think I would have returned this and tried other options.
