Okay, this speaker is phenomenal. I've had more than enough Bluetooth speakers (including a couple of Bose SoundLinks, a HomePod, a couple of Alexas, etc.) and that blows them all away. I can't explain why, but I'm strangely fascinated by it. First off, it looks straight out of the 90's and lost in time. It's like someone took a boombox, broke it in half and welded some dinner trays to the TV. It has an FM tuner (check out the photos) and I literally couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the antenna when I unpacked it. Its display is a dot-matrix screen that you might be familiar with from an 8th grade calculator. It's big, heavy and can be mistaken for an amp - chances are you'll mistake it for a roadie if you take it out of the car. His looks are adorable. The heaviness only convinced me that it was built to last. Huge rubber buttons and solid plastic are durable. Sony doesn't specifically state that it's waterproof, but considering they put cup holders on the speaker, I'm sure they designed it to withstand splashes. There are hints of sophisticated design throughout the product. The obvious highlight here are the trays. If you open them while playing music, the acoustics and dynamics of the sound will change dramatically. There is a very noticeable change in quality when you open it. There's a lag in your music and a slight pause as you open each page, but I'm pretty sure it's just software recalibrating the sound profile. When you're done, close the shells and they'll leave a gap that you can use as a handle. The trays are also fixed to prevent accidental opening. Small details like these make you appreciate the speaker. Make sure you don't sit on it; Sony clearly warns of this. Now the most important thing: the sound. I'm not the tech savvy reviewer so I can't go into detail about wattage and tweeters and all that stuff but this is amazing. It can be very, very loud. I checked the volume beforehand and the bass was so strong my wife thought someone was opening the garage. It doesn't beat the audio quality of the HomePod, but it makes up for it in volume. The best part is that it maintains its accuracy the louder you speak. I tested several songs on my iPhone and they never sounded distorted. This is the kind of speaker you need for the beach, tailgate, or any outdoor event. I can't wait to roast this thing. Another benefit of this speaker is that the sheer size allows them to fit a huge battery inside - it's rated for 13 hours, plenty of time for most events. As inputs, it supports Bluetooth, AUX-in, FM radio, and Karaoke random queue. I'm not sure I'll ever use this, but I can see it's a popular feature. I wish they could supply an XM radio instead. In general - I like it. This is one of the most unique, freshest speakers I've seen. In an age when speakers are a dime a dozen, it really takes a lot of effort to make a speaker stand out. Highly recommended.
