Review on Cretacolor Watersoluble Oil Pastels Aquastic by Summer Hendricks

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Not sure about their watercoloring merits, but the gel dissolves them perfectly - see photo

The list should be corrected. It says you will receive 40 sticks but as reported by a verified buyer and as can be seen in the product photo you will only receive 10 sticks not 40! I just bought this set at my local art supply store with the same photo on the front and I have 10.8 actually metal and there are black and white non-metal sets available too. I still don't know what to do with this set. These sticks are very hard. They looked like children's crayons, especially after I used very soft oil pastels. They also gave me a lot of crumbly bits, when I put them in I put them thick so keep that in mind. I only did a few water tests and wasn't impressed. As with other metallic water-soluble materials, they tarnish when wet, and they did. I'll come back and update my review as it's really incomplete and I didn't give them proper water training. I drew a small abstract flower on canvas and diluted the paint with Gamblin Solvent Free Gel and I thought it came out pretty well. The gel gave the colors more intensity and it looks more like an oil painting than a watercolor. However, they are not designed to be diluted with gel or other traditional oil mediums. Now I'm not impressed with watercolor, but when you mix it with gel thinner you can get great strokes and colors. They like encaustic.
