Review on Dorman 615 004 Prevailing Torque Spindle by Brian Sage

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Poor quality control

A rear wheel bearing exploded on a 2008 Focus. The bearing comes with the brake drum, so we bought a kit from our local auto parts store. It's possible to press the bearing in, but we didn't have the tools to do it. The store wanted about 15 for each of these nuts. I was able to get this pack for around £25. One of the spindle plugs was new from an auto parts store (stock side blown out), the other plug was probably original. To loosen old nuts you need a 29 or 30 mm socket. and a solid breaker, they are tightened to 273 ft-lbs and probably have red thread lock. Use the gas gun sparingly to loosen the red screw lock and use some PB or Lightning to loosen it even more. I had problems with 3 out of 5 hand tightened nuts, they just didn't hold properly. The other 2 went great. When you're ready to tighten them, use some red threadlock and tighten to 273 ft-lbs by twisting the barrel. We hope this will properly seat and hold the bearing on the spindle. We have about 5000 miles and 5 months from install. Just changed tires and they have no play so far so good 2/5 go right. 2nd update, now 17,000 miles and no play or noise from the rear wheels. We used an AA drum + bearings and it's holding up well.
