Review on Justrite 08005 Steel Drum Access by Jeff Grindley

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Does what it's supposed to do, but broke after 3 years.

Actually my second valve; I bought the first one from Revain about 3 years ago and this is a replacement for the first one. This is the ventilation of the drum; I bought it as a precaution as I bought a one piece 55 gallon plastic keg and 12v pump to keep my tractor diesel running. Stored under a canopy with little sun) the thread fails where the spring presses on it. I went out to refuel the tractor and noticed that the top part was missing (as well as the spring and internal valve). At first I thought someone was going to try to break it and steal the fuel but I was no worse than I tried to fix it using a soldering iron to fuse the two pieces together and although it worked a bit, I came back a week later and found the assembly had reappeared. That's very good ventilation, but it's hard to believe the price has gone up twenty dollars in just three years. Note that when purchasing a pump kit, most also have 2" NPT fittings - on most plastic kegs, one fitting is 2" NPT, the other is called a 2" "butt" (coarse thread) - you require an adapter (also available from Revain) to adapt a 2" fitting to a 2" NPT for use with both this pump and a drum pump. In terms of security, it's definitely worth it.

Pros
  • Allows 4 or more lpm through a standard 3/4" valve
Cons
  • Unreliable
