Installed on my PlayStation 4 almost a week ago and very happy with the performance. I considered several other products from different vendors but ultimately settled on the brand used by PlayStation. it just made sense. I looked at a few SSDs and some of Seagate's 2TB drives were very tempting, but high cost, compatibility and failure rates were strong deterrents. So far, game download speeds and reinstalls are much faster after update with HGST Travelstar 7K1000 1TB 7200RPM; Will update as my experience goes down. A note on the update: after installing the firmware (not the update, all the firmware, I made that mistake) and reinstalling the games, I realized I forgot to back up a few of my daughter's games. games. never mind; Just turn off and unplug your PS4, insert the old disc and save the files to USB, then insert the new disc and install from USB. If you don't decide to erase the contents of the drive right away, you can simply reload it and all your items will be there as you left them. When in doubt, just plan accordingly and you'll be fine. Gather all the necessary tools in advance and plan at least a day to download all the updates if you already have several games. Another thing to consider is whether your ISP has data limits (Comcast/Xfinity - 300GB per month in some cities). Since my old drive was 500GB and about 90% full, I ended up downloading about 450GB of games onto the new drive. Besides the upgrade, I've also been cleaning the dust out of the dark innards of my PS4 for almost 2 years. You can find several options online and with the help of Torx T8, T9 screwdrivers and a can of compressed air this can be done in an hour or less. Remember that if you have not extended your warranty (the base warranty expires after 1 year) this will void it. If the warranty has already expired anyway and you probably won't be sending your PS4 to Sony anytime soon, then that's just good maintenance. To be honest, if you've ever opened up other electronics it's almost uneventful and very easy, but you end up extending the life of your PS4 and it'll run even quieter with a new drive. I hope this helps if you have any questions, there are several sites that explain how to update better than me. But I'm happy to share details from my experience.
