We have a cat in the store who liked it in the cold weather last winter. We have housed him in a well insulated cat house in an unheated shop with a cat door. She used it every night and often on cold days. She has thick long hair and didn't seem to get too hot. THEN a friend found a stray kitten in her barn during a bitter cold so we built her a well insulated cat house and bought this mat for that kitty. . As soon as the kitten found a cozy and warm place, it spent every cold winter night in it. Both heater mats have worked well the one season we've used them and we plan on plugging them back in for another year soon.
