It's not just foam. At first I was disappointed that it wasn't just foam. It's like a foaming gel. or maybe it's foam, but unlike any foam I've ever experienced. The surface material is soft and smooth, and the foam is also soft but seems to rebound when you take your hand away. In other words, it returns to its original form. I haven't had it that long but I expect it will hold its shape well. I'm sure everyone is talking about how good foam is, but let me just say it. As said, the surface material is really soft and smooth. Really helps you feel good. It has some content and build quality. And the bottom is REALLY non-slip. Other manufacturers used to advertise a non-slip coating and I wasn't impressed. This is a non-slip autofocus. My only advice: get it. Plush foam is quite high. I like it as close to my wrist as possible (near the palm) and not further down my arm. So just keep that in mind. The angle/height of your desk affects how a mouse pad (padded or not) feels.
