This is very thin plastic and the covers are very thin thin metal. They also come with round "gaskets" which can be designed to provide better airtightness. They are completely unsuitable for my purpose of storing and maturing pipe tobacco. A few lids arrived slightly warped and not round, which prevented them from closing well and snagging on the jars' strings. Also, over-tightening the lids will cause the can to deform itself, causing the threads to fall out of the can and the lid to fall off. These jars are probably best for storing perishable items like marbles, nails, cotton balls, or paperclips. Don't expect them to keep dry food from going bad and they certainly aren't suited to liquids.
