Just got back from a trip to Alaska where I took over 1600 pictures. The Tamron was the only lens I used on the trip. I'm impressed with the lens, it's light and small for a wide zoom range. As a layman, I find the lens good. Photos are sharp and perform well. Apertures in the middle range of f8 to f9 give the best sharpness. The autofocus is as fast as any other lens I've had. Of course, the trade-offs required for a large zoom range make this lens far from ideal. But if you want to travel light and bring back great photos, this is the place. Below is an example cropped from 24 megapixels 6000 x 4000 to 6 megapixels 3246 x 1860.
