Most of the people who look at this lens perceive it as a staff lens, often as a replacement for a whale, and they think that by buying the cheapest lens with the magic letter L they will get an excellent universal lens, after which a bunch of deceived expectations appear. Gentlemen, this lens is NOT STANDARD. This is a very good and high quality specialized LANDSCAPE. It is designed to shoot a landscape in good light, or long exposure from a tripod. If you want a versatile lens for most occasions, forget the 17-40L, buy a 24-70L or Sigma 28-70 and be happy. The same lens is designed for shooting landscapes at f / 7.1 and above, partially architectural shooting, as well as perversions with distortion, that is, it is an excellent specialized lens, which, moreover, opens up much better at full frame due to the angle of view. Poor Japanese do not sleep at night, they see how this glass is used for reportage or portraits, so please have pity on them and don't do it =) For those who understand this and compare it with 16-35L, I can say the following - 16-35, unlike the object of the review, is excellent for reporting, and is widely used by the same wedding photographers. If you need such an application - better buy 16-35. If you are looking for a wide-angle/landscape, then the difference in the quality of such scenes will be minimal, and it is not worth 2 times the price. Dixi.
