Great Solar Charger

My experience with solar chargers started about a year ago. I had a 5 watt charger a friend gave me for my generator battery. I have never used it for this. Fast forward a year - I'm retired and my truck sits in my driveway a lot more often than it used to. My battery kept draining so I tried a 5 watt charger and waited a week to see if it worked or if my battery died again. To my surprise it worked! My truck started right away but the problem was the old battery was 4 years old at the time and I knew it would stay that way unless I got back to work or the solar charger on my truck -leave the battery. .The sun and heat distorted my 5w charger so I needed a new one. I saw this one and it was on sale the moment I bought it here at Revain. You should be aware that any solar charger you buy will be exposed to extreme heat and light, so keep that in mind when buying any of these things. Went to take pictures on a hot afternoon recently and almost burned myself because the unit was so hot after sitting on my dashboard in the midday sun in front of the dashboard heat shield (see image). 20W seems to be the limit for a solar charger before it needs a separate controller to regulate the power flow depending on what you're charging. Charge output from the battery. I like this device because the solar panel is flexible and not rigid or hard plastic like my 5w charger. Holes in each corner give you positioning flexibility for maximum sun exposure. In my case I placed the panel on the dashboard and placed a large sun visor behind it to protect the dashboard and truck interior from heat and sunburn. The sun visor keeps the panel in an elevated position for better exposure to the sun's rays. I didn't write a review until I tested it the same way I tested a 5w panel and waited a week to see if my new battery would fit (Northstar AGM - NOT RECOMMENDED). Since it dies within 10 days of inactivity and VERY poor warranty support - see my review) I am able to start my truck (Nissan Murano). The Murano has a 3.5 liter engine, not a big engine but I have to have a solar charger on it to keep the battery from draining. The charger has been on my truck for about 3 weeks now and has always done. Decided to go for a drive, the car started with no problems. I unplug the charger before I start the truck and plug it back in when I get home. A little annoying, but it keeps my truck starting no matter how long it's been in my driveway. I see that this charger could have other uses as well. It can be used to charge batteries on the go or in an emergency. The only minor gripe I have is that the panel comes with a small controller on the back that notifies you that the charger is charging. There are 3 displays on this little controller. One so you know it's getting sunlight so it can function. Another LED to let you know that the connected battery is charging. Then there is a third LED, green. Once the cell is fully charged, the green light should illuminate. Haven't seen the green light come on yet, but the charger is working as intended. Updated 05/29/21. The green light on the controller seems to be working! I recently noticed that after my truck was parked with the charger plugged in, the green light on the back of the solar panel was on! Apparently my battery must have been dead and it took a while for the charger to charge the battery.
