Since 2004 I have been using solar panels for battery maintenance when there is no power source other than a generator, solar panel or portable power source. I use it in my dock for deep cycle battery maintenance on pontoon boat motors. Since the integrated charge controller has indicator lights, an LED on a 12 volt plug is redundant and uses electricity. The device comes with a blocking diode, which is good, but the LED on the plug is non-blocking and draws power 24/7, making daily clean charging very slow. I disassembled the connector and cut out the LED. This way I can leave the charger on all the time overnight with little loss. A magnetic strip would be nice to attach to the vehicle. This is a 10W panel which of course will never deliver 10W. That is the nature of these things. In direct, bright sun, however, I was able to get about 7.25 watts. 13.2V at 0.55A. This was connected to two 12V 100Ah batteries connected in parallel, which had around 85% SOC. It's fine and met my expectations.
