My kids gave me a Braun Series 3 a few years ago and it never really impressed me. It was good for removing stubble on my head and neck, assuming I use it every day. This was a task in itself, as shaving time took longer than just soaping your head and running a razor over it. However, I have sensitive skin and daily shaving would be huge for me, no no. I made several passes to bring the stubble up to acceptable standards. This leads to a slight razor burn and the occasional ingrown hair, phew. the burden of curly hair. I have always been happy with disposable razors and will probably never do without them completely. But I notice that as I get older I become more sensitive to shaving. I can't tell if my skin or hair/growth pattern is changing. Anyway, after what seemed like a month of research, what would be best. I rushed to the skull razor. To make it short. Garbage. I might as well take a zero gap hair clipper and shave my head with it. The shave didn't even come close to a razor. RETURNED Switched to a Panasonic LV9N-S which I ended up buying for $270 at a discount through another site. This electric razor was amazingly beautiful, if a bit heavy. Seriously, the shave was so close I swore I did it with a straight razor. Unfortunately, it had several flaws. For me it was really mediocre with the hair lying flat on the nape of the neck both in front of and behind the knees. It would drive me crazy and I would use my Andis slimpro to get them and then mow the area to mow the stubble. To make matters worse, using it with feather-light pressure still gave me razor burn. Very bad razor burn on sides of head and sides of neck. Unfortunately I had to send it back because I couldn't deal with the constant, painful razor burn. I'm ready to give up and stick to my normal routine of using Dorco Blades (Step 7). I decided to try the Braun Series 9 and while it's not as close as the Panasonic LV9N (arc5), it's close enough. It is important to note that the razor does not cause irritation and shaving becomes more comfortable. It captures almost all of my flat hair and I can go 2-3 days without shaving my head and worrying about having to use clippers to trim it before shaving. To put it mildly, it's impressive. If I didn't have sensitive skin I would keep the Panasonic. In fact, I think the version I got looked better with a smaller charging base. But the Braun Series 9 is much more comfortable to use and, most importantly, delivers pleasant end results. Also, my wife appreciates the sound of this razor more than the LV9N. While it's still loud to me, the pitch is much less distracting.
