After listening to some of the folks on here, you might think it's a big problem that there's no manual for this thing. Here, I'll write you one. Insert the batteries (which were NOT included) and the device will light up. The little button on the left turns the light on for a few seconds and holding it down blocks the light. In the center is a 4-position control panel with a SET button in the middle. Use the left and right buttons to toggle the mode between LATE (the time the device waits for the shutter to fire), LONG (how long the shutter speed differs from the shutter speed), INTEL (the time between interval shots, at least 00 :00'01" ) and N (the number of shots the device will fire before stopping. "- -" - infinite shots, 1 - normal). With the music icon you can adjust the beeps toggle To change the settings, press the SET button in either mode, then use the joystick left and right to highlight the time or date you want to change (HH:MM'SS "), then press up and down to set the time or date. Press SET to lock the setting. Another small button labeled TIMER START/STOP starts timer/lamp/interval etc., countdown and functions and takes pictures. The LED on the device lights up green during autofocus and red when the shutter is released. You can have ANY combination of settings. For example, a time-delayed shot where the shutter stays open for 10 seconds for 30 frames every 5 minutes. If you only want to use the device as a remote shutter release, you don't even need batteries. Just press the big button in the middle of the device. There are even half presses for autofocus. However, the big button doesn't use the timer functions, only the small one in the top right corner. There's even a large button lock for long exposures. There is no on/off switch, which is confusing. I got around this by putting a piece of wax paper between one of the batteries and the contacts so I could leave them in the device. To turn it on, I just pull out the paper. It's a bit longer to reset when you're done, but that slower part comes after your shots are taken, and you don't have to fiddle with batteries to set up a shot, just pull the tab out. This remote works great with my Rebel XT. I am very happy for this money. EDIT: After a commenter below piqued my interest in auto-disable, I gave a sudden response. I later decided to see how long this device lasts on batteries if you just leave it on. Mine has been running for a few days now, maybe a few weeks, and is showing no signs of slowing down. I think you don't need an on/off switch. It seems to use little to no battery power when not active, probably less than a wristwatch since it's really just an LCD.
