I've been using Charlie's soap since my front loading washing machine was a pup. I tried Kirkland "natural" once and threw away the rest of the bottle. I used to wash everything in Tide (too cold from the tide). My clothes are now clean without bleach or fabric softener. My washing machine has absolutely no odor and I have never run a cleaning cycle. If you use regular detergent (they are all petroleum based) you will probably feel a slightly oily/tough quality which is why you then use fabric softener. Guess what? It's based on oil.
