Frankenstein Fan on Household Fans

Update - 10/17/2021 - Well Frankie is still spinning! Now the engine begins to lose fat. It will be a matter of time before the camps go. There are no visible oil ports like before. I don't think we can last a whole year at this pace. ------ ----- The first was a fan blade that was so horribly crooked that it barely stood upright when working, and the blade scraped against the cage until it picked up speed and shifted a bit bent back . The cage halves were separated when I opened the box. I assume it was damage in transit. I was able to put it back together. The second found a crack in the center of the engine. It can be put in place long enough to try it out. Fan blade #2 was fine. Not very good, still a bit crooked and unbalanced, but usable. OBTW, none of the units had any packing material in the boxes. Box, fan, that's all. Pick a replacement for block #1. Revane didn't ask me to return unit #1. So at that moment I had two wobbly fans. Rather than see if I could get a 3rd POS I swapped the bad fan blades in #1 for the good ones in #2. Took some work and I'm lucky to have lots of tools. For most people, this is not a totally unrelated thing. The Frankenstein fan now works properly. It's quieter than my smaller Vornado and lets a lot of air through. You can fully feel the wind at a distance of 25 feet. It draws enough air to cool our 1200m². Let feet run in for about 30 minutes in the evening and keep them cool. We live in Oakland, California, if that helps. The sound is lower frequency, which in any case bothers me less. It's easier to sleep with. If you manage to get an unstrung (or second) string, you'll be happy with that.

Pros
  • Heating, Cooling and Air Quality
Cons
  • Cable is shorter than other options
