Review on ๐Ÿ”‹ BLACK+DECKER BDH2000PL Lithium 20V by Meghan Frye

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The vacuum cleaner sucks, but in a good way. The battery sucks, but in a bad way.

We have been using this handheld vacuum daily for the past 3 years. The vacuum cleaner is excellent - collects dirt, dust and debris. But after 3 years the battery is discharged and only works for a few minutes, after which it becomes useless. Access to the battery is very simple: remove the vacuum tube; Unscrew the two screws from the case: remove the side cover; Remove the battery from the case. disconnect the quick connector; and it is ready to replace the battery. Except that there are no interchangeable battery packs! The battery part number is 515LPFC but neither B+D nor Revain nor any of the aftermarket manufacturers sell it. The battery compartment opens easily to reveal the circuit board and 5 battery cells. But the battery cells are welded to their terminals so they can't be easily removed, and they're fully enclosed within the case to hide any identifying markings. It's possible to break the welds on batteries, but it takes more than a soldering iron to do it. Since a failed battery cannot be replaced, this means that the entire device has to be scrapped. I give 5 stars for the vacuum cleaner but only 1 star for the missing spare batteries, so 3 stars on average.

Pros
  • Decent performance
Cons
  • Lots of stuff
