There is cardboard or something around the neck to hold the shape, it's a little stiff and uncomfortable around the neck when you wear it with a bow tie. I wish the ruffles went further. Even with a belt, you'll need a tuxedo or high-waisted pants to get the ruffles in the right place. Due to an uncomfortable neck, I took the necessary photos at the event and then unbuttoned the collar. Better than average for a suit piece but uncomfortable around the neck when things around the neck are driving you crazy.
