The base is very light. I wanted this for my living room since the outlet that I plug my laptop and a few USB devices into is far enough from the center of the room that I need some sort of extension cord to use those things when I'm there want to sit. This little cube is perfect in that it gives me a lot more freedom to move my electronics to where I want to sit. The only caveat is that the cord is so heavy that the weight will pull it down if placed on a desk or table :( I'm talking about the cord for the outlet itself, not the items plugged into it. It would be better if the base of it was weighted to provide a counter balance I haven't solved this problem yet.
