I really like these. They are good looking, well built and very strong. I collect them myself, sitting on the couch, although my back hurts a lot. I laid the unit on its side on the carpet instead of trying to assemble it vertically according to the instructions because it took two people and the host was away. I assembled four stools and had no major problems. If you think you have a short on the shims, look at your plumbing work and you will likely find the missing shim. They're very thin and they stick together, making it easy to use two on the same screw even if you know it might happen. Three or four bolts were surly, but I persevered and ended up winning. One of the black seats had two pinhole punctures. The white lining showed up as small white dots so I blacked them out with black marker and now they are no longer visible. I could have sent it back, but I didn't. There were a few spots in hidden spots that weren't perfectly aligned and smoothed out, but unless someone turns my stools upside down and runs their hand across the floor, they won't shatter. On the first stool, as I gradually tightened the bolts, turning them side to side and making four or more passes over each bolt, checking for vibration between the last two passes, I got a mental picture of how the vibration was would always be. But it turned out to be an unnecessary panic attack, and the chair didn't rock at all. The seats don't rotate as freely as we'd like. You need to put your foot on the footrest and push slightly to make the seat rotate. I'm sure I can fix this problem when it starts to annoy me. Love the design and the fact that they are backless which makes the breakfast room feel bigger. My old bar stools looked like a director's chair because I figured I needed a backrest, but I've never sat this far in a chair. Finally, what a great price - I paid $43.39 for a stool. I am very happy with them.
