A simple 12v car load tester 😊👍

I've always wanted one after seeing a local auto parts store use it to test my car battery. I've never noticed (or tested) how reasonable they are for the price. Justech's tester is made in China, as are those available at local B&M auto and tool stores. The car battery tester was shipped and delivered quickly. It was wrapped in thin bubble wrap in a box with no instructions. One side of the box shows a tester with a Chinese label. On the other hand, a similar tester, but digital. The box says "3 LED indicators show if the battery is bad, low or good." However, there are only two LEDs on the tester? On the back is a sticker with information (mind you I didn't call it instructions) in broken English. Fortunately, you can find many videos online on how to use this type of tester. What I haven't found is information about the supplied measuring cable. As far as I know (and information) the wire is used to test for a bad cell or to test for voltage at a specific point (instead of a positive terminal). Please note I have seen where some similar models have a rocker switch on the front. They are accused that the rocker switch is not heavy enough for such a load and therefore burns out. This one has a heavier metal toggle switch that is better suited for this type of load. I used the tester on my aging John Deere battery. When I connected the tester wires, the right LED glowed red. I'm really not sure what that means since there are no instructions. I first tested it for about 8 seconds and the load (top) half of the block started smoking and the toggle switch got hot. Although my battery showed good results. I repeated the test for about 5 seconds; No smoke this time. Maybe it was just the end that was burned on the spool. If you're unfamiliar with how a load tester works, you're basically connecting your battery to a large resistor that looks like a coil in an oven (yes, it gets hot and glows red). Connect the red wire to the battery positive terminal, connect the black wire to the ground terminal, then press the toggle switch while counting the seconds. Press and hold the toggle switch for 5-10 seconds (1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi, etc.), 10 at most. You need to know your battery's cranking current so you can read the appropriate scale on the dial. Your fully charged battery (you must charge the battery first) should initially read around 12.5 volts. Under load, the indicator should remain green to assess your battery's CCA. The scale should not go below 9 volts, it is advisable to stay closer to 10 volts. Note I have seen where they are not very accurate on small lawnmower/garden tractor batteries. To test the charging system, start the car/truck with the tester connected. The gauge should be set to around 13.5-15 volts. Now you can press the toggle switch for a few seconds to ensure your charging system can handle the load. However, you can just turn on the high beams and then see if the charging system stays constant or drops (indicating a problem). By running both tests, you can tell if you have a bad battery or a faulty charging system. I give Justech car battery tester ⭐⭐⭐. The price is definitely reasonable and the tester works and does what it is supposed to do. On my test device (see picture), the coating on the negative pole is peeling off, almost like battery acid? I wouldn't expect that from a new one. It would also be nice if there were instructions in the box. The sticker must at least be rewritten and printed in such a way that everyone can understand it. I hope this is helpful - thanks for reading ✌😉
