Review on 🐠 Aqueon Versa Top 36-inch x 18-inch Hinged Glass Aquarium Lid by Andrea Larson

Revainrating 2 out of 5

1/4 inch offset or less

When I first ordered this lid it was packaged very poorly (only the lid was stapled in the regular Aqueon cardboard sleeve you always see these lids in , in a long cardboard box 3 times larger, only with a strip of crumpled brown paper as "underlay") and lo and behold, it was completely broken. The box was full of glass, I even cut my finger trying to get it out. Seal the shipping box to open it. Anyway, Amazon kindly didn't make me repackage and return this broken glass mess. Offerer? Not sure. But everything was intact and I was very excited. Caps for a 40g selector are outrageously expensive and there aren't many options on the market (so no doubt a price as a 40g selector is really a common aquarium size). I could go to a nearby glass or acrylic paint shop and have something done, but when it came to the intricacies of what I needed. it all seemed to cause me more trouble than I wanted. So my laziness overcame my reluctance to shell out $65 for a lid and I went ahead and just bought this online. But now that I have the whole lid I've found, as others have sometimes found, that the lid doesn't fit. Quite right. Keep in mind that my aquarium is a typical 40g grower. I measured the inside of the lip so I know it doesn't mean my tank is deformed or doesn't fit ITS dimensions. But this cap is obviously cheaply made and doesn't fit the tank's filler neck, it's fallen off about 1/8 to 1/4 inch in length. So now it's on my tank, not my lip. Not very reliable. Not very HAPPY because now as others have said I need to get it somewhere to see if it's even possible to trim it down and file it a bit and see how much it will cost me. If possible at all. So my laziness and choosing an expensive but easy option bit my ass. I had to order the lid twice, cut my finger and now I ALSO have to take it somewhere to pay someone to shave the glass off a bit to fit my fish tank. Great (I have other Aqueons that fit great. In fact, I bought three other Aqueon jar lids that were perfectly adequate.)
